Concrete Driveways Across the Fraser Coast

A driveway is one of the first things people see when they pull up to your place, and out here on the Fraser Coast it cops a fair bit of punishment. Hot Hervey Bay summers, heavy downpours, salt in the air and the weight of cars, trailers, boats and the odd delivery truck all take their toll. That is why we do not treat a driveway as just a slab of concrete poured between two boards. We treat it as a structure that has to drain properly, sit on a stable base and stay crack-free for decades.

We pour plain concrete, coloured concrete and exposed aggregate driveways right across Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Rainbow Beach, Tin Can Bay and the surrounding Fraser Coast. Whether you want a clean, no-fuss broom finish, a coloured driveway that ties in with your home, or a decorative exposed aggregate that looks the part and gives you grip underfoot, we will talk you through the options honestly and tell you what suits your block and your budget.

Plenty of driveways fail early because the basics were skipped. Not enough fall toward the street so water pools and sits. Reinforcement left out or laid on the ground instead of being chaired up. A base that was never compacted. We do not cut those corners. Every driveway we pour gets a properly prepared and compacted base, steel reinforcement positioned correctly, the right thickness for the load it will carry, and falls set so water runs away from your home and off the slab.

We are a local crew, QBCC licensed and insured, and we live and work in the same area you do. That means we know the local soils, the council requirements for crossovers, and what the coastal climate does to concrete over time. From a single carport-width strip to a full circular driveway with a new crossover, we build it to last and we leave the site clean.

What We Offer

Plain (broom-finish) concrete

The most cost-effective, hard-wearing option. A non-slip broom finish in a natural grey, ideal for budget-conscious projects that still need to last.

Coloured concrete

Oxide colours mixed through the concrete or applied to the surface to complement your home, fences and landscaping. A warmer, more finished look than plain grey.

Exposed aggregate

Decorative stone exposed at the surface for a premium, textured driveway with excellent natural grip. A popular choice for coastal homes around Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach.

Crossovers & council approvals

We construct the crossover from your driveway to the road to council specifications and can guide you through the approval and inspection process.

Driveway extensions & widening

Adding a strip for a second car, caravan or boat? We tie new concrete into existing slabs neatly with proper joints to manage movement.

Reinforcement, falls & drainage

Steel mesh or bar correctly chaired up, the right slab thickness for vehicle loads, and falls set so water always drains away from the house and off the slab.

Our Driveways Process

No mystery, no shortcuts. Here's exactly how we approach every driveways job on the Fraser Coast — so you know what's happening at each stage.

  1. 01

    Free on-site consult & measure-up

We come out to your place, measure the area accurately and look at the lay of the land, existing drainage and access for the truck. We talk through finishes, colours and any council crossover requirements so you know exactly what is possible on your block.

  2. 02

    Written fixed quote, itemised

You get a clear written quote with everything spelled out — site prep, base, reinforcement, concrete, finish, joints and clean-up. No vague verbal numbers and no surprises later. If a crossover or council inspection is involved, that is laid out too.

  3. 03

    Booking, set-out & excavation

Once you approve the quote we lock in a date that suits you and turn up when we say we will. We set out the area, strip the topsoil and excavate to the correct depth so there is room for a proper compacted base and the right slab thickness.

  4. 04

    Base prep & formwork

We bring in and compact a road-base sub-base to give the slab a stable, well-drained foundation. Then we set the formwork, checking and double-checking the falls so water runs away from your home and off the driveway toward the street.

  5. 05

    Reinforcement & pour

Steel mesh or bar is laid and chaired up off the ground so it sits in the middle of the slab where it does its job. We then pour, screed to level, and work the concrete to the correct falls and thickness for vehicle traffic.

  6. 06

    Finishing & joints

We apply your chosen finish — broom, colour or exposed aggregate — at the right time as the concrete sets. Control joints are cut in the correct positions so any future shrinkage cracks happen along the joint lines instead of randomly across the slab.

  7. 07

    Curing, clean-up & walkthrough

We cure the slab properly, clean up the site and cart away all the rubbish so your place looks tidy. Before we leave we walk you through it, explain when you can walk on it and drive on it, and give you simple care and sealing advice.

No surprises

Honest, Transparent Pricing

Every driveway starts with a fixed price in writing before any work begins. That quote itemises the site prep, the compacted base, the steel reinforcement, the concrete itself, your chosen finish, the joint cutting and the full clean-up. You will see exactly what you are paying for, and you get a proper GST tax invoice. We do not do vague verbal prices that creep up once the truck has left.

If something genuinely unexpected turns up once we start digging — say the ground is softer than it looked or there is buried rubble that needs removing — we stop, explain it to you in plain English, and agree on any variation in writing before we pour. You will never come home to a bigger bill than you agreed to without having said yes first.

We will also give you honest advice up front. If a section of your existing driveway can be saved rather than ripped out, we will tell you. If a cheaper finish will do the job just as well for your situation, we will say so. Our reputation around Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast is built on straight talk, not upselling.

Concrete Driveways FAQs

How long before I can drive on my new concrete driveway?
As a general rule you can walk on it carefully after about 24 to 48 hours, but you should keep vehicles off for around 7 days. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks, so for heavy vehicles like a loaded boat trailer or a removal truck we recommend waiting the full week or more. We will give you exact timing on the day based on the weather and the mix.
Do I need council approval for a driveway crossover on the Fraser Coast?
Yes. The crossover (the section from your property line to the road) usually needs approval from Fraser Coast Regional Council and must be built to their specification, often with an inspection. We are familiar with the local requirements and can guide you through the process so it is done correctly the first time.
How thick should a concrete driveway be?
For standard cars a residential driveway is typically around 100mm thick over a compacted base with reinforcement. Where heavier vehicles like trucks, boats or caravans will be parked, we increase the thickness and adjust the reinforcement accordingly. We work this out for your specific situation and put it in the quote.
Will my driveway crack?
All concrete moves slightly as it cures and with temperature changes, which is why we cut control joints in the right places. These give the concrete a planned line to crack along if it needs to, instead of cracking randomly across the surface. With a proper base, correct reinforcement and well-placed joints, you should not see significant cracking.
Should I seal my driveway?
We recommend it, especially out here near the coast. Sealing helps resist oil stains, salt, UV fading and general weathering, and it keeps coloured and exposed aggregate driveways looking sharp for longer. We can include sealing in your quote or come back and do it once the concrete has fully cured.
